Registration Deadline

Hey everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Plans for the reunion are falling into place nicely.  Soon we will have a LOST CLASSMATE list up, and will need help from everyone to find these people!

Also, we have decided to put an incentive on early registration!  Already two people have registered (thanks, Jennifer and Robert Quimbey)!!!  The success of our reunion depends on having at least 100 people, and many of the things we'd like to do require having registrations in advance.  So, here's the incentive...

Price for the reunion is $60 per person through March 31st, 2012.  As of April 1st, 2013, the price will increase to $70 per person.  Doesn't seem like a whole lot, but the hope is that it will still encourage the early registration, and besides...that's $10 more you have to spend on booze at the reunion!  So don't delay!  :)

Just a quick update!

Thanks to an informative conversation with classmate, Lamont Mitchell, we can now accept credit card or debit payments!  I updated the registration form with that option!

The only drawback is there is a $2.25 processing fee per transaction (not per ticket) for doing that, which goes to the credit card processor, not the reunion budget.

Reasons To Attend Your 20 Year Class Reunion

So these might be silly, but Tonya Wilson Martin and I thought some of these reasons had merit!  :)  Really, we just want everyone to know that you are all welcome and that we all endured high school together...that is something to celebrate! 

REASONS TO ATTEND YOUR 

20 YEAR CLASS REUNION

1. You’ve got nothing to prove.

2. You want to swoon over your ex.

3. You want your ex to swoon over you.

4. No one can relive that big game like the friends who where there with you when it happened.

5. Few events offer the opportunity to go back in time and laugh like a teenager.

6. This party doesn’t involve puffy prom dresses, dyed to match shoes, or big hair – though you might see a few photos of just that.

7. You know high school didn’t define you.

8. You might find out Mr. Most-Likely-To-Succeed is now a stay-at-home dad, and Miss Biggest Flirt is now a tenured professor at an Ivy League.

9. Even though your life didn’t follow the road map you had planned, you know deep down your path has been uniquely yours.

10. Even with the best of intentions, you really don’t get together with those high school Facebook friends.

11. You look better than you’ve ever looked before.

12. You feel better than you’ve ever felt before.

13. You are so not who you were back then.

24. The “I didn’t like anyone then”, “I still talk to everyone I want to talk to”, and “everything there is to know about anyone is on Facebook” excuses are predictable and ordinary. You are neither.

25. Rarely in life do you get to look back through a new lens.

26. Being someone’s “friend” on Facebook does not mean you know anything about them other than what they did last Friday night.

27. Because you can.  (This is especially true for our class, since we have lost so many classmates!)

Reunion Update and Registration!!

Hey!  So we have been getting lots done on this reunion and are feeling pretty excited about what we have in place so far!

Pearson Air Museum and Beaches Restaurant have been secured as location and caterer.  That was the hard part!  Our Friday Night Alumni Night for classes of 1991-1995 is underway, with Main Event downtown Vancouver jumping on board to help us make it a fun night. 

Here are our two major challenges or concerns right now:

1.  In order to fund this reunion, we HAVE to have at least 100 people sign up!  Our last reunion had 90 people, so we feel like 100 should be no problem!  We're hoping for even more!  So, please encourage any alumni to come!  Also, in order to start funding rentals and such, we need to start accepting registrations.  So I will post the registration form (a link to a Google document) and all you alumni can start committing NOW!!  Currently, we can only accept checks or money orders, but are working on a way to accept credit/debit with no fees attached and/or a way to allow you direct deposit into a bank account.  But for now, old fashioned checks are necessary!  Also, no matter how you pay, I will need a hard copy of the registration form mailed to me.  If mailing is absolutely impossible, you can email the form to me, but we are trying to avoid me having to print off a hundred forms.  I will update the blog as soon as we add another way to pay.

2.  We need help hunting down classmates.  Thanks to Facebook, we have quite a few on our radar.  However, many classmates aren't on Facebook and our contact info is from 10 years ago.  So, we will be posting a list of our classmates that need to be found and if you have info on them, please email it to me at shookashookashooka@gmail.com OR send me a Facebook message OR if you prefer, give THEM my contact info so they can contact me.  

So, that's it so far.  We know there are many reasons and excuses someone wouldn't want to come to a reunion...but forget all those and come anyway!  Lots of work is being put into this to make it fun and comfortable for EVERYONE and we want to see as many faces there as possible!

Reunion Details! (So far!)

Okay classmates!  Things are definitely underway!!  Half the committee met this past Wednesday (myself, Tonya Wilson Martin, Darcie Vavrosky Lindemood, April Lent Carter, and Jesse Wood).  Together we brainstormed and came up with a weekend of fun we think will be both affordable AND able to be done by our committee!  The one detail we have firmed up is the date and location. Some other things are still tentative as we firm up agreements with people and secure deposit money, etc.  Please keep in mind that many, many great ideas have been shared with us, and we have taken all of those into consideration and come up with the best plan that we think will be both fun and sorta classy, as well as worth the ticket price.  We know that we cannot make everyone happy, but we want as many people as possible to be able to come.

Dates:  Friday, July 19-Sunday, July 21, 2013
Cost: $60 per person, no host bar (beer and wine)
We will not be doing a Memory Book
We will do a group photo but will post it on Facebook and this Blog for anyone to download for free
Your ticket cost includes: facility rental, permit costs, and tent/decoration rentals; food; a small amount to cover any printing or mailing costs; even smaller amount to cover feeding a 4-6 "helpers" who will take care of registration tables and such so the committee can enjoy the party;

Friday:  Alumni Night for 1991-1995
Tentative until we talk with some people, but our hope is to take Brian Sullivan's idea of using Main Event downtown as well as a few other pubs, and put together a no cost pub crawl that night for all alumni from years 90-95!  This would enable us to see other EHS alumni, as well as enable traveling classmates an extra day to arrive in Vancouver for the official reunion event. 

Saturday:  Class of 93 Reunion Night
Location: Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver
Tentatively scheduled for 7-11pm
We will have a catered buffet from Beaches, memorabilia and memorial table, a short but fun presentation, and music.  It will be held both inside the main hangar and outside.

Either early Saturday morning or Sunday:  Family Picnic

In order to start making deposits and paying for things, we will be opening up registration soon!  We know that we need at least 100 people to come to the reunion.  Our 10 year had 90 alumni in attendance, so we are confident we can get 100 at least (more would be fantastic!)  Our class had nearly 582 registered students, so 100 isn't crazy, right?  The sooner you pay and commit, the better we can plan!  We will be taking cash and checks, but also will have an account at Bank of America set up that anyone can go deposit the registration fee and send us your form and receipt.  More info on that will be coming! 

Okay, for now, the most important thing to remember is the DATES!  Start saving your pennies and be prepared to register early...and look for updates!  We have fun things planned and hope we aren't all mental thinking we could do this on our own!
